Success story: Rande Bridge Expansion
Clients: several clients.
Challenge:Carry out the modelling and drafting of the segmental sections (dovelas) for the Rande Bridge expansion, corresponding to the steel deck of the two additional lanes.
Services: Detailed engineering services (3D modelling, part breakdowns, manufacturing drawings, bill of materials, approval drawings, jigs/fixtures, and inspection drawings) delivered in two modes: outsourcing and in-office work for different clients.
Key project data
- 1-year project duration
- 2 teams involved, 6 people in total
- 6,000 tons of steel
- 20,000 working hours
- 23,400 drawings generated
- Over 60,000 files generated and 80GB of information processed

The documentation provided by the client, and required for our work, was as follows:
- Excel files with setting-out points for the steel structure
- Setting-out points for bearing supports on piers
- Latest revision of complete project drawings
- Construction instructions and guidelines
- Updates of all modifications to project drawings approved by engineering
- Drawing formats, construction details, and requirements from the workshop and other departments
Based on this information, 3D models of the different segmental sections were created. Once validated by the client, the following sets of drawings were generated:
- Manufacturing drawings: Breakdown drawings in PDF and DWG formats, DXF files for oxy-cutting, bills of materials, component assembly drawings, auxiliary sheet metal breakdowns for jig positioning, and jig manufacturing drawings.
- Approval drawings: Section drawings, longitudinal drawings, on-site joint drawings, bolting/painting drawings, and access/drainage pipe drawings.
- Auxiliary drawings: On-site connection plate drawings.
The project documentation delivered included manufacturing and approval drawings in DWG, PDF, and DXF formats for cutting.
To automate data loading and document generation, we developed our own applications based on the specific needs of the project.
